The Director General (DG) of the Ghana Police Service’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the DG of the unit responsible for legal and prosecution matters had bench warrants issued by the High Court of Accra for their arrest.
The two had been consistently failing to show up in court to respond to charges of alleged contempt, so the arrest orders were issued.
The ruling was made in response to an application submitted by Sureword Global Outreach, which asked the court to order the respondents to give the applicant back the car they had impounded, which had the registration number GN 2925-20.
The bench warrant was issued because the respondents regularly neglected to appear in court despite the court’s directions.
Attorney for Abraham Arthur, the petitioner, asked to have the director of the Legal and Prosecution Unit and the head of the CID committed for contempt at Monday’s sessions.
The court determined that the arrest warrants were issued because the respondents had “blatantly refused” to follow its instructions.
