UTV’s ‘United Showbiz is a useless program’ – Owusu-Bempah
According to Ernest Owusu-Bempah, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) deputy director of communications, “United Showbiz,” a popular program on UTV, is a “useless show.”
On October 1, 2023, Owusu-Bempah expressed his displeasure with the show’s content and tone in an interview with Wontumi TV. He implied that if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) were in power and a show like “United Showbiz” were airing to criticize the government, there would be a significant backlash from the youth.
He claimed that guests on the program had no purpose and denigrated the government on the show, harming the latter’s reputation.

“Yes, they have been paid at the UTV program, why are you afraid? That showbiz program that they are doing, the useless program, and the NPP we are sitting down there?
“If it was NDC in power and NPP were doing such a program on TV, the youth would have ransacked the place. The NDC would have not given you a dog’s chance and people without any life sit there and attack the government as if there is no tomorrow.
“John Mahama is the alternative for the people of Ghana; if that is so, I will never believe in Ghana again,” he said.
You may remember that the National Leadership of the NPP urged UTV management to change their program to guarantee objectivity in panelist contributions.
The leadership acknowledged that panelists’ responses on the program frequently criticize and mock the administration.
Regular panelist A Plus tore up a copy of the letter last weekend and declared: “This letter is revolting because we have received calls from people threatening to collapse UTV United Showbiz.”
He further stated that 90% of UTV’s viewers were NPP stock holders. Nonetheless, they compliment them for the station’s viewpoints.
