Nurses strike: Parliament’s Health Committee to meet nurses today
Today, Thursday, June 12, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) leadership is scheduled to meet with the Health Committee of Parliament in an attempt to settle the association’s ongoing industrial action.
In order to demand the implementation of its 2024 Collective Agreement—which addresses issues with unpaid allowances and members’ delayed postings—the GRNMA announced a strike earlier this week.
However, the government has suggested that the agreement be put into effect in 2026, claiming that the national budget for 2025 does not account for the associated financial commitments.

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the health minister, defended the suggested 2026 deadline by warning that putting the agreement into effect in its current form could cause economic instability.
The association has disagreed with the government’s stance and is still calling for urgent action, arguing that nurses and midwives shouldn’t be the ones who suffer the most from financial restraints.
