Health Minister seeks mercy for nurse accused of insulting him
Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the minister of health, has urged the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to be forgiving of Bernice Aboagye, a staff nurse who was recently questioned for allegedly making derogatory comments about him on social media.
The Ministry of Health acknowledged receiving the online query letter and praised the Service for adhering to professional standards and the Code of Conduct for health workers in a statement released on Sunday, October 12, 2025, and signed by Tony Goodman, Head of Health Training Institutions and Ministry Spokesperson.

Nevertheless, Mr. Akandoh urged the Service to balance justice with mercy, emphasizing the necessity of allowing for constructive criticism and differing opinions within the health sector.
“Both the Minister and the government welcome divergent views and constructive criticism as part of the commitment to fostering tolerance and openness to diverse opinions,” the statement said.
Additionally, he urged health professionals to voice their concerns in a responsible, courteous manner without using derogatory language, emphasizing that constructive discourse advances the industry.
The Ministry also made it clear that it has nothing against protests, characterizing them as fundamental rights and acceptable ways to vent frustration. However, it issued a warning against using derogatory words or acting indisciplinedly while doing so.
Additionally, it served as a reminder to health professionals to use caution when speaking to the public and on social media.
