I won’t step foot at any polling station without protection – Miracles Aboagye

Following the violent episodes that rocked the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the assistant to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has given a harsh ultimatum to President John Dramani Mahama and the Ghana Police Service, demanding immediate action.

In an interview on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Wednesday, July 16, Aboagye stated that he is at his breaking point after six days of inaction and silence from authorities.

“It has been six days. If nothing is done, the only thing that will be left for the NPP to do is to set up the Self-Protection Committee on Saturday, and I am going to insist,” he declared.

He stated that he will personally present a motion for the establishment of the committee to protect party agents and supporters at polling places at the next NPP reform conference on Saturday.

“Saturday is a conference for reforms. I will raise my hand and recommend that while we have a legal and elections committee, we need a Self-Protection Committee. Because if the NPP doesn’t do that, I will not go out there to any polling station,” he said firmly.

The proposed committee would be in charge of physical security in difficult election situations, particularly when state protection seems lacking or ineffectual, Aboagye clarified.
