I lived with hernia for 10 years before surgery – Samini reveals
Award-winning Ghanaian artist Samini has shared details of his very personal health struggle, stating that he had to get surgery after living with a hernia for ten years.
The reggae-dancehall legend talked about how he performed despite having chronic stomach pain on the Health Quarters podcast, even though he knew something was wrong.
“I still kept it cool and did that last performance,” Samini said. “Anybody watching me knew I wasn’t my normal self. I used only half my energy.”

Samini didn’t seek medical attention until his team’s concern forced him to talk, which ultimately prevented serious problems.
“When I finally spoke to my team and we did the test, it turned out to be a hernia I had kept for over ten years,” he revealed. “Thankfully, it hadn’t developed into something worse.”
The “Linda” hitmaker underwent successful surgery and spent about three months recovering, quietly managing his health away from the public eye.
He noted that as an entertainer from the “analog to digital” era, he wasn’t the type to broadcast his private struggles online.
“I’m not your typical ‘Snapchatting because I’m sick’ person,” Samini said. “But I think this is the right time to share it so others, especially live performers, can learn.”
Samini also cautioned against self-medicating or relying on “herbal” remedies for hernias, stressing that no medicine can cure the condition.
“There’s no medication that can melt a hernia. The only solution is surgery,” he emphasized.
He advised fans and other musicians to have regular checkups, particularly if they experience ongoing lower abdomen pain.
