Today, Tuesday, July 1, 2025, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister of Health, is scheduled to address Parliament to give an update on the state of COVID-19 in Ghana.
The Minister will give a thorough update on the nation’s public health readiness, response strategies, and the state of infections, immunizations, and surveillance systems during the briefing, which is set for 2:00 PM at Parliament House.
This comes after a rise of COVID-19 cases on campus was reported by the University of Ghana on Monday, June 23.
The university’s health directorate said in a statement released on Thursday, June 26, that both suspected and confirmed cases had been reported on campus, leading to the reactivation of health protocols and increased surveillance.
“All staff, students, and visitors are strongly advised to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to the recommended preventive measures to reduce the risk of infection and community spread,” the statement noted.
All student organizations, including the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG), Students’ Representative Council (SRC), Junior Common Rooms (JCRs), and departmental and school associations, were instructed in a recent directive by the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs to suspend all planned events and week celebrations until further notice.
The decision is a preventative step meant to protect the health and welfare of the university community, according to the statement signed by Professor Rosina I. Kyerematen, Dean of Student Affairs.
“These measures have become necessary to safeguard the health and well-being of the University community,” the notice emphasised.
The administration of the institution has called on students and campus organizations to follow the instructions to the letter and assist in stopping the virus’s spread.
