President Nana Akufo-Addo believes his Vice, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer for the December 7 election, is the greatest Presidential candidate to succeed him.
He claimed that Dr. Bawumia was capable of advancing the development of the country because he was loyal, competent, sensitive to the problems of Ghanaians, and, most importantly, had a deep love for it.
In order to continue his legacy, President Akufo-Addo urged Savana Region voters to support Dr. Bawumia in the elections on December 7.
During a “Thank You Rally” at Damongo on Monday, President Akufo-Addo said these things to thank the people of the Region for their cooperation and support during his presidency.
In addition, the President gave Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, the Overlord of Gonjaland, a courtesy call to express gratitude for his assistance and for being one of the three distinguished chiefs who helped settle the Dagbon chieftaincy conflict.
Akufo-Addo, the resident, listed a number of efforts and improvement projects his government carried out in the Region.
He claimed that the Savannah Region was established during his presidency and listed some of the development projects that were started, such as the building of three factories under the One-District, One-Factory initiative, the Damongo Water Project (which is 80% finished), the construction of 460 km of new roads in the region, the paving of 10 km of new roads in Damongo, and the improvement of 300 km of feeder roads with gravel to improve connectivity.
The president said that the Daboya College of Education, which had previously been run by the private sector, will be formally opened in two weeks after being taken over by the government.
According to President Akufo-Addo, 1.6 million students are currently enrolled nationwide in the Free Senior High School program, which has benefited 5.7 million children to far. These are just a few of the policies and development initiatives his administration has undertaken across the nation.
He stated that under the One-District, One-Factory initiative, 169 plants were operational and completed, while 152 were still under construction and in varying levels of completion.
The achievements of President Akufo-Addo’s administration in the region have been hailed as “unmatched” by Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Member of Parliament for Damongo and the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources.
He added that since President Akufo-Addo assumed office in 2017, his administration has worked on a number of initiatives related to social interventions, road development, healthcare, education, and water projects.
“President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assumed a legendary status in the eyes of the Gonja people by granting their request for a region, which they have been asking long before even Ghana attained independence.
“The people of the Savannah Region and Gonjaland have been clamouring and fighting for a region since the 19th century.
“The people of Gonjaland have petitioned all presidents under the Fourth Republic, and it is President Nana Dankwa Akufo-Addo who finally created the Savannah Region,” Mr Jinapor said, amid shouts and cheers from the audience.
“This is part of the Akufo-Addo legacy, today and forever. We will welcome you to the region any time.
“Mr. President, that achievement is unmatched. You have liberated the people of Gonjaland and granted us independence. The Savannah Region and Gonjaland say thank you.
“In addition to creating this region, you have brought unparalleled development in all facets of human life. Your legacy in education, healthcare, agriculture, road infrastructure, and more is unmatched,” Mr Jinapor stated.
