Justin Frimpong Kodua, the general secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has emphasized that the party is now putting more emphasis on internal reorganization and introspection than it is on wooing the public after losing the general elections in 2024.
He said that in order to properly position the party for future success, a comprehensive assessment of its inadequacies was being conducted.
On Wednesday, June 18, Mr. Kodua spoke on Channel One TV about his worries with the NPP’s decision to have its next presidential primary on January 31, 2026, and urged the party to be more accountable to the electorate.
He insisted that prior to making fresh overtures to the people, a thorough grasp of internal shortcomings was necessary.
“They say charity begins at home,” he said.
“So internally, what are the leakages? What were the shortfalls of the thing that happened, which culminated in us losing the elections?”
Mr. Kodua claimed that underlying problems with the party’s operations and structure contributed to its defeat in addition to its record of poor governance.
He clarified that a thorough post-election investigation that looked at both internal and external causes had been finished by a special committee headed by Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye.
“The committee looked at several aspects — the governance aspect, the party’s internal systems or structures, our campaign strategy and message, and our communication. So they are multifaceted,” he noted.
He went on to say that this thorough examination will assist rebuild trust within the party’s base and direct the party’s future policies.
Mr. Kodua restated that the NPP is currently concentrating on internal reconstruction as opposed to indulging in hasty political posturing.
In order to regain the confidence of the Ghanaian people in future elections, he emphasized that sincere rejuvenation must start with candid reflection.
