Justin Frimpong Kodua, the general secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has apologized unconditionally to the Ghanaian people for the party’s failures during its time in power.
He gave the voters his word that the NPP will not make the same mistakes as its last government if given another chance to lead.
On Wednesday, June 19, Mr. Kodua acknowledged in an interview with Channel One TV that while the NPP had achieved significant progress while in power, it had also failed in a few crucial areas.
He emphasized that the party accepted full responsibility for its past shortcomings and was not blind to them.
“As a political party, certainly we did our best, but we couldn’t have gotten everything right,” he stated. “And I have always said that on behalf of our then government, our political party, certain things that we could not do right, we apologise for it.”
After being defeated in the general elections of 2024 after two terms in office, the NPP has subsequently started an internal reform and self-evaluation process.
Mr. Kodua claims that this time has given the party a chance to evaluate its governance record and get ready for a more successful return.
He reaffirmed the NPP’s dedication to accountability and growth in his closing remarks.
“As a party, we are always ready to learn and make sure that when we come back to power, the good things that we did, we will build on. And those mistakes that we made — we will not repeat those mistakes,” he pledged.
