DSTV consumers in Ghana may soon see a drop in subscription fees, as Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation Sam George prepares to meet with the service provider’s Ghanaian and South African teams to discuss subscription pricing.
The Minister is adamant in his belief that DSTV’s pricing must reflect current economic conditions, and he has described the upcoming conversations as vital to implementing price improvements in the best interests of consumers.
Sam George stated that the decision is part of the government’s broader push to promote fairness in digital service pricing, despite continued concerns about household cost burdens.
“We will use the power of the state to protect the citizens of the state. I am clear in my mind that the meeting will not come to an end without an agreed reduction in the price.
“I have seen the attempt by the South African management to say that when you buy a package, they should upgrade you to the next one. We are grateful, but that is not what we want. We want a price reduction,” the minister demanded during a press briefing on Thursday, July 3, 2025.
