Dr. Yusif Sulemana, an energy strategist, has been named Tema Oil Refinery’s (TOR) new managing director.
Following a cordial welcome from the refinery’s management, Dr. Sulemana formally assumed his new position on Monday, February 10, 2025, according to sources close to TOR who spoke to Citi Business News.
Having worked in the upstream, midstream, and downstream segments of the energy business for more than 20 years, Dr. Sulemana is a skilled energy management strategist.
With an emphasis on oil and gas production, refinery process optimization, and methodical troubleshooting, his experience encompasses petroleum, power, and alternative energy.
Dr. Sulemana was a Senior Oil & Gas Production Operations Specialist at Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) in the Sultanate of Oman prior to his present position as TOR’s Managing Director.

His previous positions included Chemical/Process Engineer at Tema Oil Refinery and Project Manager (Gasification) at Genser Energy.
Dr. Sulemana has a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from KNUST, Ghana; an MSc in International Oil & Gas Management from the UK; and a Doctorate in Business Administration (Energy Management) from the USA.
Apart from his technical proficiency, Dr. Sulemana is an enthusiastic STEM supporter and advisor committed to developing the upcoming generation of energy experts.
He has received a great deal of acclaim for his leadership and impact in the energy industry, which has led to the Ghana Energy Awards’ Energy Advocate of the Year title.
