Man receives $1m as an award after 27 years wrongfully jailed
For a murder he claimed for years he didn’t commit, Michael Sullivan was imprisoned in Massachusetts for more than 27 years.
After a second trial and the use of new DNA testing demonstrated his innocence, he was freed in 2013.

Although Massachusetts law caps awards for unjust convictions at $1 million, Sullivan received $13 million (£10 million) from the state earlier this month.
Sullivan said the money will “never make up the years” he lost, having lost his mother and four siblings while incarcerated.
