Media outlets have reported the death of former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
After suffering a heart attack on Wednesday while receiving treatment in the city of Kochi in southern India, Raila Odinga was taken to the hospital and declared dead.
Odinga lost each of his five presidential campaigns as leader of the opposition, and two of those elections resulted in tumultuous outbursts of retaliation and bloodshed ten years apart.
Following the contentious 2007 election that sparked the nation’s worst bout of political violence since independence, he spearheaded the demonstrations.
The battles resulted in hundreds of thousands of people being uprooted from their homes and about 1,300 people being killed.
