Despite the Speaker designating four seats as vacant, Alexander Afenyo-Markin claims he is still the majority leader in Parliament.
Following their Members of Parliament’s decision to run as independent candidates again, the four seats—Agona West, Amenfi Central, Fomena, and Suhum—were declared empty.
The Supreme Court has halted the Speaker’s order, but this has led the Minority to assert a majority in the Legislative House.
In response to a query on the present Majority Leader, Afenyo-Markin stated that Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and his supporters are adamant about taking the majority chamber.
“I remain the Majority Leader, leader of government business and leader of the House. Nothing has changed and nothing will change.”
“I earn that by virtue of my caucus being in majority and my caucus remains in majority in spite of the mischief on the floor. The Supreme Court has reaffirmed it and I challenge all those who are in disagreement to come to court so that this matter is further litigated and resolved”, he emphasized in an interview on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show.
