Mustapha Ussif, the Minister of Youth and Sports, has reacted to accusations that he is “the worst Sports Minister” in Ghanaian history.
In a meeting with Kwabena Mensah Woyome, the chair of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Culture, and Tourism, the Minister refuted the portrayal.
“I want to disagree with your statement that as a minister, I am the worst in terms of numbers, I don’t know the numbers you are talking about. You should be able to tell me which data you are using to determine that during my time, I am the worst,” he questioned.
Ussif also used the occasion to justify the government’s $3 million spending on Ghana’s trip to Côte d’Ivoire for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Minister explained to the committee how the money was distributed to the national team during their 11-day visit.
Ussif claims that the funds were utilized for a range of necessary costs, such as flights, accommodations, per diems, medical care, and logistics.
