Employees of GIHOC Distilleries Limited have been cautioned not to participate in Organized Labour’s planned strike against galamsey by Managing Director Maxwell Kofi Jumah.
Mr. Jumha has threatened to fire any employee who chooses to participate in the countrywide protest.
A strike by Organized Labour is scheduled to begin on October 10 in protest of the government’s lack of action in addressing the Galamsey situation.
While a large number of unions have strongly supported the initiative, others have opposed it due to what they see as inadequate comprehensive engagement.
The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has instructed members to continue offering full services while expressing solidarity with Organized Labor.
However, Mr. Jumah insisted that the strike’s foundation is rooted in national issues and does not directly impact GIHOC, which is why he issued the warning.
“If you like, don’t report to work. Anyone who joins them will be sacked. I am saying this on authority. There are labour laws in the country. Let the issue be a national concern, not GIHOC’s own.
“If someone doesn’t sleep well and says things, then you follow. So, if you like, follow them and see. They should not even waste our time because we are wise people at GIHOC,” he warned.
