Assuring Ghanaians that the process is proceeding smoothly throughout the nation, Jean Mensa, the chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), has expressed her pleasure with the way the current general elections have being conducted.
Jean Mensa gave an update on the polling situation while speaking from the EC’s Accra offices, highlighting the commission’s dedication to guaranteeing a transparent and credible election.
“Reports reaching us indicate that the elections are proceeding well across the length and breadth of the country,” she stated. “We are confident that the good Lord who has started this process will bring it to a good and expected end.”
The media’s unparalleled access to all collation centers, including the national collation center, is one of the major highlights of this year’s elections.
Jean Mensa praised this ruling as a historic step in promoting accountability and openness in the political process.
“In all elections since the inception of the Fourth Republic in 1992, the media has been granted access only when the declaration is being made at the national collation centre, but this is the first time the media is having access to all our collation centres across the country.
“This is a testament to the values of transparency, accountability, inclusiveness, integrity, and responsiveness that we hold dear.”
Journalists and civil society organizations have mostly praised the decision to grant media access to all collation centers, seeing it as a daring move to bolster public trust in the voting process.
