The Ghana Education Service (GES) has indicated that measures are underway to address concerns made by newly posted teachers during a picket on Monday, June 23, regarding salary payment delays and personnel ID issue.
According to a news statement published by the GES, the Ministry of Education has formally requested that the Ministry of Finance extend the expired financial clearance period.
The extension will make it possible to process the approximately ten-month-long salary arrears and provide staff identity numbers to the impacted teachers.
Since starting work in September 2024, the impacted educators have not yet received their full compensation. Despite receiving staff IDs, 2,113 of the 12,807 graduates hired that year have not received their salaries. Because of discrepancies in Ghana Card information, SSNIT numbers, and self-reposting, 582 more people never received staff IDs.
According to GES, a technical group made up of the resentful instructors has been formed to enhance cooperation and communication during the resolution process.
The present wave of corrective actions was prompted by abnormalities in the recruitment process that were discovered during a nationwide staff validation exercise in March 2025.
Daniel Fenyi, the GES Public Relations Officer, urged the impacted instructors to remain composed and reassured them of the Service’s dedication to finding a solution.
The statement stated that “significant progress has already been made” and that GES is working to solve both short-term issues and long-term changes to stop such incidents in the future.
The Service also pointed to changing leadership within teacher organizations as a reason for difficulties in engaging stakeholders. In order to facilitate communication and more successfully address unresolved issues, GES is advocating for unified representation.
The statement also affirmed that funds had been set aside in the national budget for 2025 to support payments to the impacted employees.
