According to the Electoral Commission (EC), Ghana has made great strides in its preparations for the much-anticipated December elections.
The Commission’s chairperson told the National Election Security Taskforce during a meeting that ballots had been sent to Police Regional Armouries in all but three regions, and that plans are in place to finish the distribution by the end of the day.
Furthermore, eight regions have already received Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs), and the remaining devices should arrive by the weekend.
To maintain efficiency and transparency during the printing and distribution of the ballots, the EC has been collaborating closely with political parties, the Ghana Police, and other interested parties.
About 210,000 officers have been recruited and are undergoing training by the Commission in an effort to guarantee the seamless conduct of the polls. The EC has created brief videos to aid in their preparation, which will be distributed to the officers as post-training refresher content.
The introduction of Aid Memoirs, which will be available at all collation centers, is one of the major improvements this year. These materials are intended to help with the collation process and offer advice on how to handle possible difficulties, like requests for re-collation.
While the primary election day is scheduled for Saturday, December 7, the EC has confirmed that Special Voting for security agencies, election officers, and the media would occur on Monday, December 2.
George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), has, in the meantime, voiced confidence in the security forces’ readiness to keep the peace prior to, during, and following the elections. He noted that the police have been actively involved in the process all along and praised the Electoral Commission for its exhaustive and open efforts.
