Appiatse disaster: Akufo-Addo to commission 120 housing units for survivors
It is anticipated that two years after a tragedy struck Appiatse, a farming community in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality in the Western Region, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will officially open more than 120 dwelling units for habitation.
The entire town was destroyed when a vehicle transporting around 10 tons of mining explosives to the Chirano Mines collided with a motorcycle in January 2022.
Following the sad event, the government started rebuilding right once, and as a result, 124 housing units and auxiliary facilities for the survivors have been completed.
The recently constructed buildings have improved amenities such as inner roadways, a market, six-unit classroom and kindergarten blocks, water and electricity, a drainage system, and a water storage system. The units range in size from one to seven bedrooms.
