Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s minister of foreign affairs, has declared that by December 2025, there will be a passport application center in every region.
As part of initiatives to decentralize passport services and increase accessibility nationwide, he disclosed that the first of the new centers will be put into operation in Bolgatanga this month.
The Minister revealed the information at a ceremony to award diplomatic passports to five notable Ghanaians: British-Ghanaian businessman Dentaa Amoateng MBE, broadcaster and entrepreneur Anita Erskine, Grammy-nominated reggae artist Rocky Dawuni, travel vlogger Wode Maya, and contemporary visual artist Ibrahim Mahama.
According to Mr. Ablakwa, the Foreign Affairs Ministry’s continuous reforms have already revolutionized the passport application procedure. Applicants no longer have to endure tense excursions to collecting centers because they can now obtain their passports quickly using courier services.
“The Foreign Affairs Ministry has become very efficient, and Ghanaians are already confirming that now it is a smooth process. They are receiving their passports in record time and do not have to stress to pick them up at passport offices, because they are being delivered via courier services.
“But we still have seven regions without passport application centres. I am delighted to announce that by December, we will make sure every region without a passport application centre has one, starting with Bolgatanga this month,” he said.
