The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has stated that the 2026 World Cup campaign should be more transparent and disciplined.

The President stated, “To ensure Brazil does not happen again, there must be discipline and transparency. We believe the marketing should be more disciplined. Aside from that, there must be transparency.

“Often, when decisions are made and funding is opaque and all that, it creates all kinds of rumours in the society and creates all kinds of misperceptions in people’s minds,” he stated.

He indicated that the sordid occurrence soiled the reputation of Ghana.

The President added that “Brazil 2014 World Cup fiasco dented Ghana’s reputation, but that is all behind us now. We’ve encouraged the GFA to ensure that we are able to process the payments that are due to the players as quickly as possible”.

Ghana has qualified for the 2026 World Cup to be hosted by USA, Canada and Mexico.

Black Stars sealed their qualification after beating Comoros by a lone goal at the Accra Sports Stadium.
