Tamale Central by election: NDC clears 12 aspirants for Parliamentary primary
In the Tamale Central Constituency, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has certified all 12 candidates to run in the party’s parliamentary primary, which is set for Saturday, September 6, 2025, at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.
On August 31, the vetting process, which was headed by Barbara Serwaa Asamoah, the party’s Deputy General Secretary, came to an end. Following that, voting was done to decide the candidates’ order on the ballot.
Ms. Asamoah noted the historic involvement of three women in the campaign and expressed delight with the caliber of candidates.

She advised all candidates to run their campaigns politely and refrain from taking any acts that would cause discord within the party.
Similarly, Northern Regional Minister Ali Adolf John appealed to supporters to remain peaceful and avoid violence throughout the campaign season.
Prior to the September 30 by-election, which will choose a replacement for the late Member of Parliament Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who passed away in a military helicopter crash on August 6, the primary is an important phase. The seat on the NDC ticket was won by Dr. Mohammed, who was also the Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP), the opposition party, has declared that it will not run a candidate in the by-election.
In order to create a competitive fight to choose the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for the constituency, the primary nominations were launched on August 22 and closed on August 24.
