The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has issued a harsh warning to MultiChoice Ghana, the DSTV operators, to lower their membership costs or face the consequences.
According to the Minister, DSTV’s broadcasting licence would be suspended on August 7, 2025, if it does not modify its pricing to reflect the Ghana cedi’s recent appreciation.
“This government will not sit idle while Ghanaians are shortchanged,” he said in a statement under the Ghana government’s #AccountabilitySeries.
“The cedi has strengthened significantly, and we expect service providers to pass that benefit on to consumers. Failure to do so will not be tolerated,” he added.
The move is part of a broader push by the Ministry to ensure fair pricing and greater accountability in the digital and broadcast space.
While MultiChoice is yet to respond publicly, industry watchers say the ultimatum could have major implications for satellite TV access in Ghana.
