NPP constructed only 673km of new roads, not 11,000km – Agbodza
The Minister-Designate for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has denied assertions made by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that his administration built 11,000 kilometers of new roads between 2017 and January 2025.
Agbodza refuted the former President’s claim during his vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Monday, January 20, by presenting what he called factual facts on road construction finished during that time.
Agbodza disclosed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government built only 673 kilometers of new roads, which is far less than the 11,000 kilometers that former President Akufo-Addo claimed. This information is based on official data.

He emphasized that re-gravelling and graveling existing roads, which made up 6,185.90 kilometers, constituted the majority of the activity reported by the NPP.
“At the time of the transition, the new roads constructed amounted to 673 kilometres. The record in Parliament clearly shows that Ghana did not construct 11,000 kilometres of new roads since 2017 but rather focused on re-graveling and graveling,” Agbodza stated.
Although upkeep tasks like re-graveling and upgrading are crucial for maintaining the road system, he maintained that they shouldn’t be confused with building brand-new roads.
“At the time of the transition, the new roads constructed were 673 kilometres and so the record Parliament has is that Ghana did not construct 11,000 kilometres of new roads since 2017 but rather 673 kilometres have been constructed as new roads. The bulk of the work which has been done is re-graveling and graveling, which is 6,185.90 kilometres,” he added.
