The arrest of NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, has been criticized by Henry Nana Boakye, also known as Nana B, who claims it is an obvious instance of political harassment.
In a forceful response, Nana B charged that the administration, under President John Mahama, had abused its authority and employed intimidation within months of taking office.
“This political harassment—President Mahama, this is not why we voted for you,” he declared. “Somebody announces an invitation from the CID, and immediately he steps out with his lawyer, then he’s picked up in such a rumble style?”
He questioned how Wontumi was treated after the police invited him, claiming the arrest was politically motivated and unduly violent.
“Trust me, we are not going to sit down, we are not going to allow this political intimidation and harassment to go on,” Nana B warned. “In the coming days, you will hear from us. The voice of the people is the voice of God.”
While reaffirming the party’s willingness to cooperate with lawful investigations, the NPP National Organizer insisted that due process must be respected.
“If you have an overwhelming endorsement from the people, it doesn’t mean you need to harass the people. What kind of life is that?” he questioned. “We have said it time and time again—we are going to cooperate, but for the government to subject people to such political harassment and intimidation—we are not going to allow it.”
