Following Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson’s appointment as Minister of Finance, Mahama Ayariga, the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, will formally assume the position of Majority Leader in Parliament today, January 23.
Due to Dr. Ato Forson’s promotion to the Finance Ministry, Ayariga was able to fill the leadership void in the Majority Caucus.
Ayariga, who is well-known for his legal knowledge and long time in parliament, is anticipated to lead the Majority with a strategic and practical viewpoint.
Ayariga has made a name for himself over the years as a strong supporter of his constituency and a significant contributor to parliamentary debates.
It is expected that under his leadership, the government’s legislative goals will be driven by his efforts to foster unity among the Majority Caucus.
This change is a component of larger parliamentary leadership shifts brought about by recent ministry appointments.
Another important seat in the Majority front bench is now vacant as Governs Kwame Agbodza, the previous Majority Chief Whip, has moved to the executive branch as the Roads and Highways Minister designate.
Additionally, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, who has been nominated as Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, will be replaced as Deputy Majority Leader by Cape Coast South MP Kweku Ricketts-Hagan.
