Lands Ministry Rubbishes Ablakwa’s Claims that Akufo-Addo’s Daughters Not Involved In Galamsey
The accusations made by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the MP for North Tongu, that President Akufo-Addo’s daughters were involved in galamsey, or illegal mining, have been refuted by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
Since the President’s daughters are not involved in any such activities, the Ministry argues that these allegations are completely untrue and deceptive.
Despite the MP’s charges, the Ministry reaffirmed in a statement released on Saturday, September 28, 2024, that no member of the President’s family is involved in galamsey.
Additionally, they called on the public to ignore the accusations, describing them as politically driven and intended to harm the President’s family’s reputation.
Ablakwa claimed that the Elite Minerals Company Limited was connected to the President’s daughters. However, the Ministry clarified that the company was actually registered in 2008 and was given a mining lease in the Kwaebibirem Municipality in 2012, during the John Mahama administration.
They claimed that this disproves any notion that the President’s family is currently engaged in illicit mining.
The Ministry emphasized that everyone would be held legally responsible, regardless of their ties, and reiterated the government’s commitment to stopping unlawful mining.
In addition, they urged public officials to refrain from disseminating lies for their own political benefit and emphasized the government’s continuous initiatives to preserve the nation’s natural resources and restore areas devastated by galamsey.
“The attention of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has been drawn to certain comments by the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, alleging that the daughters of the President of the Republic, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, are either associated with a certain company and/or involved in illegal mining.”
“The said allegations are palpably false and without merit whatsoever,” the statement said.
