I’m disappointed, not discouraged” — Atta Akyea reacts to Supreme Court ruling

Lawyers for Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), expressed disappointment after the Supreme Court denied their motion to prevent Justice John Eugene Nyante Nyadu from preside over a case in which their client is on trial for allegedly causing the state a financial loss of $49 million.

A five-member Supreme Court bench unanimously denied the application, citing a lack of merit. The court ruled that the motion did not fulfill the legal standard for prohibiting a trial judge.

Speaking to journalists following the ruling, Lead Counsel for the Accused, Samuel Atta Akyea, stated that, while the result was disappointing, the legal team remained steadfast. Lawyers for Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), expressed disappointment after the Supreme Court denied their motion to prevent Justice John Eugene Nyante Nyadu from preside over a case in which their client is on trial for allegedly causing the state a financial loss of $49 million.

“I am disappointed but not discouraged. We will see how the case will travel. The persuasion a judge should have is the law. I will have a banter or fight with the judge. I am only going to project the law, and that doesn’t move me at all,” he stated.

It is anticipated that Justice Nyante Nyadu will continue to hear arguments in the High Court against Mr. Adu-Boahene, who is charged with inflicting financial loss to the state.
