Haruna Iddrisu leads Asiedu Nketia, Ato Forson in NDC flagbearer race – Global InfoAnalytics
Haruna Iddrisu, the Member of Parliament for Tamale South, is the front-runner to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) into the general elections in 2028, according to a recent Global InfoAnalytics poll.
The study indicates that Haruna Iddrisu has 30% of the vote, more than NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia (24%), and Finance Minister Ato Forson (18%).
Julius Debrah, the chief of staff, comes in second with 10%, and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the MP for North Tongu, received 8%.
Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah received 1% of the vote, while other possible candidates Eric Opoku, Joshua Alabi, Armah-Kofi Buah, and Kwame Awuah-Darko each received 2%. In the survey, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije did not receive a sizable amount of support.
It is much more evident how dominant Haruna is when tested in different situations.
He increases his lead to 45% in a three-way contest that does not include Ato Forson, as opposed to 37% for Asiedu Nketia and 18% for Julius Debrah. His support increases to 47% among NDC members alone, and he is especially well-liked in crucial swing areas, where he receives 48% of the vote.
But if Haruna doesn’t participate in the competition, the dynamics change significantly. In that case, Julius Debrah is in second place with 22%, while Asiedu Nketia leads with 40%, just ahead of Ato Forson with 38%. With Asidu Nketia at 42% and Ato Forson at 41%, the election is essentially deadlocked among core NDC voters.
It’s interesting to note that Forson does best in swing areas, surpassing Asiedu with 47% support compared to 38% for the Chairman.
According to the results, even if Haruna Iddrisu is presently the overwhelming favorite, his absence would put Asiedu Nketia and Ato Forson in a very close fight, which could change the NDC’s succession plan before 2028.
