EC announces rerun of Ablekuma North parliamentary election in 19 polling stations
There will be a repeat in a few chosen polling places in the Ablekuma North Constituency, according to a statement from Ghana’s Electoral Commission.
On July 2, 2025, the commission released a statement that included this information.
The EC claims that following a thorough discussion, the commission notified the political parties that it would repeat 19 of the 37 constituencies.
The judgment was made when it was discovered that, although being accepted by representatives of both political parties, the presiding officers in charge of the polling stations had not validated the scanned copies of the results from these 19 polling places.
Eighteen polling places whose results were confirmed by the presiding officer will not hold elections.
According to the EC, these 19 polling places in the constituency will host the rerun on Friday, July 11, 2025.
Backgound
The Electoral Commission has, since December 7, 2024, after the election, not been able to announce the winner of the Ablekuma North seat.
This was after a misunderstanding between the two major political parties on the authenticity of some scanned results during the collation process.
There have been several efforts by the EC to collate the results, but it has always ended in a stalemate, as both of the leading political parties do not seem to agree on the results.
The last time the EC tried collating the results after a court order for them to be protected by the Police, some party supporters besieged the office of the Electoral Commission and destroyed property.
The Minority in Parliament have since staged a walk to the Office of the IGP to inform him of the need to provide the needed security for the collation to take place.
