Despite their overwhelming support, we have done nothing for the Ashanti Region – Ekow Assafuah

Hon. Vincent Assafuah, Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) neglect of the Ashanti Region, despite the party’s persistent and overwhelming support in the area.

In an interview with Oyerepa TV, which was monitored by MyNewsGh, Assafuah stated, “I visited the Suame Roundabout before coming to your studios, and the filth and underdevelopment that has engulfed the place is disheartening.” It’s unfortunate that, despite the Ashanti Region’s overwhelming support, there is almost nothing to show for it.”

However, he made it clear that the failures were caused by flaws in important implementing organizations, such as the Ministry of Finance, and not by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former vice president and current presidential candidate of the NPP.

Assafuah asked the NPP for forgiveness after reflecting on previous errors.

“We were naive then. But if the party forgives us and we vote massively in 2028 under the tutelage of Dr. Bawumia, we can transform the Ashanti Region to truly reflect the goodwill we enjoy from our people.”

He stressed that the party’s challenges were not rooted in Bawumia’s religion, noting, “The NPP’s loss is not because Bawumia is a Muslim. It’s because of the betrayal from within the party.”

Assafuah also shared insights from his interactions with grassroots supporters, recounting a conversation during a local football match.

“One gentleman at Tafo Zongo told me that the deplorable state of our region is one of the reasons he never voted for the NPP.”

Assafuah maintains his optimism in the face of the criticism, saying he is confident that the Ashanti Region can once again become a bastion that reflects the party’s pledges and the support of the people if the right leadership and dedication are shown.
