Following his release from the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was visited by Chairman Wontumi, also known as Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
On May 27, 2025, Wontumi was taken into custody by EOCO on charges of fraud, money laundering, and causing the state to suffer financial losses.
After fulfilling the requirements of his GHS50 bail with two sureties, he was freed on Monday, June 2, 2025.
On Tuesday, June 3, Wontumi visited the NPP headquarters in Accra after being freed, where he was greeted with open arms by party officials and members.
He went to see Dr. Bawumia later that day.
