Today, May 27, 2025, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is scheduled to make another appearance before the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
Due to ongoing investigations into his company, Akonta Mining, his appearance has been set for 3:00 p.m.
On Monday, May 26, 2025, Chairman Wontumi accepted an invitation from the CID despite ongoing investigations against his mining company’s actions. His legal team, headed by former Attorney General Godfred Dame, was with him.
Former Asante Akyem North MP Andy Appiah-Kubi, former New Edubiase MP George Oduro, and other supporters were also in attendance.
Wontumi was warned about three charges: conducting mining operations without a license, contaminating water sources, and accessing a forest reserve without permission, according to a statement signed by Superintendent Joseph Benefo Darkwah, Head of the CID’s Public Affairs Unit.
According to the police, he gave his statement, cooperated completely with investigators, and was later released on bond.
The service further assured that updates on the case would be communicated in due course.
