The bench warrant that the High Court had previously issued for the arrest of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been revoked.
His court appearance immediately after the warrant was issued led to the decision.
When Wontumi and his legal team arrived after 10 a.m. to ask the court to revoke the order, which had been issued at approximately 9:40 a.m., it was still in effect. Officially, it was revoked at 11:39 a.m.
Andy Appiah-Kubi, Chairman Wontumi’s attorney, clarified during the case recall that he had told his client to show up at 10 a.m., believing that the proceedings were for a case management conference at that time.
Although the arrest order was revoked, the presiding judge advised the NPP chairman to arrive on time for any future proceedings.
Along with Kwame Antwi, a director of Akonta Mining Limited, and the business itself, Chairman Wontumi is on trial. They are accused of transferring mining rights without a valid permit.
