August 4 not a public holiday; it’s a regular working day – Interior Ministry

The public and institutions should take note and make proper measures, since the Ministry of the Interior has stated that Monday, August 4, 2025, will be a regular working day.

Given recent legislative changes to Ghana’s national remembrance schedule, this clarification is important. August 4 not a public holiday; it’s a regular working day – Interior Ministry

Previously, August 4 was marked as Founder’s Day to honor the establishment of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC), a watershed moment in the country’s journey to independence. However, the modified statute now recognizes August 4 as a commemorative day.

In a statement released on July 31, the Ministry emphasized that as memorial days are not public holidays, they do not necessitate taking time off from work or public activity.

The announcement puts an end to speculation by confirming that August 4, 2025, would not be observed as a legislative holiday.
