The majority leader of Ghana’s ninth parliament is now Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the member of parliament representing Ajumako Enyan Essiam.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus decided to keep its leadership from the 8th Parliament in the upcoming parliamentary session, which led to this conclusion.
Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Ellembelle Member of Parliament, who was previously the Deputy Minority Leader but is now the Deputy Majority Leader, is standing behind Dr. Forson.
Adaklu MP Kwame Agbodza has been appointed Majority Chief Whip, retaining his crucial role in overseeing legislative coordination and party discipline.
As a sign of leadership continuity within the NDC’s parliamentary caucus, Ahmed Ibrahim, MP for Banda and a previous Deputy Minority Chief Whip, now serves as Deputy Majority Chief Whip.
Following President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s suggestion that the NDC caucus designate Alban Bagbin as Speaker of Parliament for the ninth session, these appointments were made.
The NDC and the larger legislative body have found unity in Speaker Bagbin, who held the same position during the 8th Parliament.
Following the official dissolution of the 8th Parliament at midnight on January 6, 2025, a caucus meeting was conducted to formalize the decision to retain the NDC’s front bench leadership.
This action demonstrates the party’s faith in its present leadership group and their capacity to handle the difficulties of the next legislative term.
