Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has made it clear that the recent wave of arrests for suspected embezzlement and corruption is only the start of a larger effort to hold former public servants accountable.
As part of phase two of his Thank You Tour of the Eastern Region, he told a durbar of chiefs and citizens in the Atewa East Constituency on Thursday, September 25, that a number of former government appointees will be arrested for their alleged involvement in the misappropriation and misuse of public funds.
“As for the arrests, we have only just begun — we haven’t gotten far yet,” he stated. “Anyone who has taken advantage of the country’s resources or embezzled state funds must be held accountable.”
Mr. Nketiah also urged Muslim leaders, the church, and traditional authorities to back the government’s redoubled efforts to fight corruption and rebuild public confidence in the country’s leadership.
“We call on traditional leaders, imams, and clergy to support us, because we believe what we are doing will help heal Ghana and preserve what Dr. Bawumia himself admits was damaged, so that Ghana can remain strong,” he said.
