Stop impregnating our girls – Central Regional Minister ‘begs’ road contractors

The recent rise in adolescent pregnancies in his authority has been attributed to road contractors, according to Justina Marigold Assan, the Central Regional Minister.

The Central Region’s contractors were encouraged by Justina Marigold Assan to focus on their primary responsibilities of building the roads they are allocated and to cease pursuing adolescent females.

At a sod-cutting ceremony to mark the start of construction of the 3.7-kilometer Kasoa Ofaakor-Jei River road in the Awutu Senya East Municipality, the Central Regional Minister made this statement.

“I know you won’t be happy about what I’m about to say, but please, we beg you, when you start your work, please stay away from the teenage girls in this area. We don’t want to come next year to commission the road and hear that someone’s teenager is pregnant and one of you is responsible.”

“If something like that happens, I will make sure that person is arrested. To those coming to work on this project, if you can’t handle the loneliness, please bring your wife or look for an older person to be with and not go after a teenager. If that happens, we will surely deal with you,” she said as it aired on Rainbow Radio Accra.

The construction projects include building the Ofaakor-Jei River road with side drains and a culvert, building the triple 3.0 x 3.0 m box culvert and approach road at Akweley Kasoa, and building 8500 square meters of precast concrete paver blocks exterior pavement works for Kasoa Old Market.

Within the framework of the World Bank’s Ghana Secondary Cities Support Program, the project is anticipated to be finished in a year.
