I never went for my BECE results after JHS – Obaapa Christy

Gospel superstar, Obaapa Christy, from Ghana, has disclosed that she didn’t bother to check her results for the Basic Education Certificate Examination after finishing it.

She claimed that because she thought she wouldn’t pass every subject, she didn’t try to go back to school once the results were announced.

She discussed her educational history in an interview with Roselyn Felli on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning on Wednesday.

I never went for my BECE results after JHS – Obaapa Christy

“I reached JHS, but it’s not that I stopped; I wrote BECE, but I didn’t go for the results,” she said.

“Did you pass”? Roselyn asked

“I didn’t even go for it to see whether I passed or not because I foresaw that I wouldn’t pass,” the singer replied.

Not that the singer didn’t study; rather, she believed that even if she did, she wouldn’t succeed since she had fostered the belief that her scholastic abilities were lacking, which made studying challenging.

She consequently focused her energies on singing and praying at school since she found them to be enjoyable.

“When we visit a colleague who is sick, then I’m asked to pray, or I’ll be called to lead praise and worship during Wednesday and Friday church services, or a teacher would send me to buy something. Those were the things that made me like going to school,” she added.

The gospel singer said that she was not only against studying but also against class dictation periods.

Nevertheless, given how adept at capturing information at her age, Obaapa Christy believes she would have done well academically if she had set her mind to studying in-depth.

Since she thinks that there are other paths to success for people outside schooling, she does not regret her behavior at school. She is an advocate of formal education, but she also feels that nothing compares to God’s favor.

“My success is based on the grace of God that located me, and so I don’t joke with such grace,” she said.
