NDC promises to secure justice for 8 killed during 2020 polls if it wins power

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has sworn to bring those accountable for the eight deaths that occurred during the general elections of 2020 to justice.

During a press conference held at the party headquarters on Monday, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the party’s chairman, pledged that the next NDC government will provide justice to all those who had suffered from the misgovernance of the current government, including the families of the eight victims.

In a statement released on Sunday to mark 31 years of Ghana’s Fourth Republic, NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama also denounced the alleged use of “thugs and rogue elements within the security agencies,” claiming that they are frequently employed to “disrupt elections in some parts of the country as occurred in the 2020 elections,” resulting in the deaths of eight people.

“President Nana Akufo-Addo has not uttered even a word of sympathy to the bereaved families,” he said, calling the killings “saddening.”

Eight lives, including three kids, were lost during the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections, according to Commissioner of Police (COP), Isaac Ken Yeboah, during a press conference held a week following the results.
