Election 2024: Mahama promises to construct a cashew processing plant for Wenchi if he becomes President
In the event that he wins the 2024 elections, National Democratic Congress flagbearer John Dramani Mahama has disclosed intentions to put in place a novel mechanism intended to expand the region’s cashew processing sector.
Mr. Mahama proposed a change to the current practice of shipping raw cashew nuts to India for processing, emphasizing the value of agricultural growth.
He suggested a new scheme in which cashew nuts purchased from Wenchi would be processed and packaged by Ghanaian manufacturers and then exported for foreign exchange.

Speaking Friday to a crowd in Wenchi, he said, “Currently, cashews are harvested and exported to India for processing before distribution to other countries. The Indians profit more from cashews that we have struggled to plant and harvest.”
The NDC leader pledged to put the item in his manifesto for 2024.
“My leadership aims to introduce machinery in the Bono Region dedicated to cashew processing, designed for the efficient processing and packaging of cashews for export. This initiative is to retain any profits from cashews in the country,” he explained amidst chants from the public.
He urged the people of Wenchi to throw their support behind him in the upcoming elections to make the vision a reality.
