Why most MPs develop diabetes after two terms – Sam George details

Sam George, Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram in Greater Accra, has spoken out about his weight reduction and personal health journey.

The MP stated that he took action after learning from a research report that 60% of Ghanaian lawmakers get diabetes or high blood pressure after serving two terms.

In an interview with Starr FM, he remarked, “I lost 30kg, actually 33kg, but I haven’t been able to keep the 33 off.” Around 2017, I recognized I was definitely overweight, and I saw the nature of the job when I was elected to parliament.”

He claims that the aforementioned report exists, notwithstanding his silence on the researchers or who wrote it.

“And then I read that 60% of people who came into parliament after two terms develop either diabetes or high blood pressure, there is a report like that in Ghana’s parliament. 60% of people who go to Ghana’s parliament…this statistic is extremely scary,” he added in the interview that took place December 14, 2023.
