Parliament likely to face power disconnection over GH₵23m ECG debt
Due to an outstanding debt surpassing GH₵23 million, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is contemplating cutting off power to the Parliament of Ghana on Wednesday, February 21.
This prospective course of action is a component of the ongoing “Operation Zero Balance” program, which attempts to collect delinquent accounts from a variety of clients.
Given the Parliament’s vital role in national governance, there is some controversy surrounding its inclusion among the disconnection targets.
According to sources, ECG’s operations are severely hampered by its mounting debt, which also makes it more difficult for them to satisfy the demands of electricity producers.
This possible action comes after Accra Academy Senior High School disconnected power on February 19th owing to an unpaid GH¢400,000 debt.
