You’re just a curtain-raiser – Shatta Wale blasts Stonebwoy
Controversial Shatta Wale, a dancehall musician from Ghana, has taken Stonebwoy to task over his interview with TV host Berla Mundi.
On August 24, Stonebwoy participated with Berla Mundi in a live Twitter chat to debate the condition of the Ghanaian music scene in light of Asake’s spectacular O2 arena performance.
The management of Stonebwoy also gave an explanation for why his artist was unable to perform at the Afronation Detroit event, blaming gatekeeping and sabotage by some Nigerian business figures.
When asked about the demands made on Ghanaian artists to reach the same success as their Nigerian contemporaries, Stonebwoy said that such demands would not be successful if the appropriate processes were not put in place. He said that in order to ensure that the sector expands to the required height, more knowledge of it is required.

But in a video that has been going viral on social media, Shatta Wale sharply criticized Stonebwoy for his remarks, saying that Stonebwoy cheapens himself and would never receive the same respect and attention as the best Nigerian musicians.
“Stonebwoy was asked if he was facing pressure, and he said no pressure, but awareness. You dress and do your Instagram photos like Burna Boy. Hasn’t anyone told you? You are facing pressure, which is why you want to go on stage later, you want to be on stage at the same time as Wizkid? Look at what you did at AfroNation Detroit. You were given time to come on stage, you wanted to go at the time you wanted.
“You allow yourself to be paid $10,000 while Burna Boy gets paid $300,000. Did you expect to be treated like an important person? You are just a curtain raiser!! You will never get the same platform as Wizkid, Davido, or Burna Boy!” he fumed.
Shatta Wale has already expressed his sentiments publicly regarding other members of the Ghanaian music business. He received a lot of criticism for his remarks when he praised Asake for his performance at the O2 Arena and berated Ghanaian performers for failing to reach such heights.
