Why Bawumia gave Ghs400 per delegate – Sammi Awuku explains
Sammi Awuku, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign coordinator, has stated that the payment of Ghs400 to delegates was not done to influence their votes.
Awuku said on JoyNews The Probe that whatever amount the Vice President’s campaign team donated during the Primaries was acceptable since political elections are expensive.
“I can speak for both of them (Kennedy Agyapong and Bawumia) on the sharing of money… When they were buying forms to contest, they had to prove resourcefulness…. If you bring people from all over the place to one location, you have to help them with transport and feeding”
He added that most of the time the funds did not come from the candidates directly.

“In Akwapem North, a brother from Chicago took up the cost of almost Ghs70,000 for the delegates. And in many other places. But we placed a cap on how much anyone person can contribute…” He explained.
Sammi Awuku strongly refuted any suggestion that the Ghs400 per delegate was intended to sway delegates.
Some NPP members had disclosed earlier on Saturday that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is sharing GHC 400 for transportation, while Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, his chief rival, is giving GHC 300 to each delegate.
As of right now, there is no record of the surviving candidates, Francis Adai-Nimoh and former Agriculture Minister Owusu Afriyie-Akoto, giving money to delegates.
