We’re going to export nurses to lower unemployment – Mahama

John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, has proposed exporting some health professionals, notably nurses, to other nations to alleviate unemployment.

Mahama believes that deploying nurses abroad would be a better choice than keeping them unemployed in Ghana.

During his trip of the Savannah Region, Mahama spoke to student nurses about the need of finding work after completing their school.

To carry out this policy, he proposed establishing a unit at the Ministry of Employment dedicated to recruiting nurses who fulfill the required export requirements.

“We want to increase the production of health workers and nurses and we will employ them to work for us as many as we can but at the same time, we will sign agreements with other countries where we can post our nurses to go and work on fixed contracts.

So under the Ministry of Employment, we will have a unit that can recruit nurses and make sure they are of the standard that can work in international hospitals.”
