Highway armed robber k!lled in gun battle with police; others on the run
There has been one armed robber slain by Banda Nkwanta police.
The police were notified of a robbery occurrence on the Bole-Bamboi highway between Teselima and Banda Nkwanta, according to the police situational report.
Inspector Carl Agyemang Acheampong led a squad from Banda Nkwanta to the scene of the robbery, where they encountered six armed criminals who had broken into a Mercedes freight truck bearing the number UW 7009 Y.
The armed bandits reportedly fired shots at the police after spotting them, and the police responded by firing back.
But the robbers with guns ran into the forest. When the police returned to the location, they discovered an automatic pump action gun, 47 rounds of BB ammunition, two empty cartridges, and one of the robbers—who they thought to be Fulani—in the bush with gunshot wounds.
After being sent to the Leyaata Hospital, the armed robber was declared dead upon arrival. In the interim, the body has been placed in the same hospital’s morgue pending further proceedings.
