On Sunday, December 3, 2023, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) released wanted posters for six men who were allegedly involved in buying votes in a public election.

Viral recordings purportedly show the men in the wanted posters acknowledging that they received money from candidates in the recently concluded New Patriotic Party (NPP) orphan constituency parliamentary primaries, despite the OSP not specifying which election the purported vote buying occurred in.

At least two of the guys listed in the wanted notice were shown carrying large quantities of cash in branded envelopes that they said were provided to them by the candidates during the primaries in one of the videos that JoyNews released.

The two guys, who acknowledge receiving at least GH¢2000 apiece, are NPP delegates from the Ablekuma Central Constituency.

The envelopes they displayed to the cameras were branded with images of the primary candidates.

“I have gotten more than GH¢2000 and they just gave me lorry fare too… It is my money, it is mine,” one of the men in the wanted notices said.

“The money is here; we got a lot of money. This is the first time, I have never experienced this before,” another one of the wanted notices said.

About the Ablekuma Central primaries:

Deputy Director of Communication at the Office of the President Jefferson Sackey defeated businessman Collins Amoah, Ebenezer Nii Narh Nartey, a former Member of Parliament for the constituency, and businessman Samuel Brako-Amoafo to become the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the Ablekuma Central Constituency in 2024.

With 539 of the total votes cast, he won the primaries.
